GOVERNMENT STRATEGIES IN WATER AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT 1 OF 3
The federal government has established goals in social, economical and environmental fields to favor a sustainability environment. In the following editions, we will present the initiatives to fulfill the established objectives.
- All strategy for caring of the environment is related to the reduction of environmental impact; many initiatives are focused to the reduction of greenhouse effect gases, as these are the cause of climactic change.
- The Mexican government has set the goal of reducing 50 million tons per year of carbon emissions, leveraging for this objective on the publication of the Law of Use of Renewable Energies.
- The investment in Wind Energy from 2007 to 2009 has been in more than four billion dollars, and it has been addressed that México currently holds the third place in the World in geothermal capacity, with a one thousand four hundred megawatts.
- In another issue, the Department of Communication and Transportation (SCT), through Airport and Auxiliary Services (ASA), is heading and investigation to determine if saline plants produced in the country can be exploited for the production of aerial fuels.
In 2009 the Consulting Council for Renewable Energies was established, which will have the following functions:
To generate for the Department of Energy, specialized opinions regarding the issues of renewable energies, including those related that are considered in the Special Program for Use of Energies.
To provide support to the Department of Energy in the design of public politics that promote participation of the people and groups involved in the issue, with the objective to establish and apply measures to encourage energetic transition.
